The Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) Collection at the Fresno State Library is the hub for cultural, literary, pedagogical, and research resources for the diverse Portuguese Diaspora in the San Joaquin Valley, focusing on the Azorean-American experience.
This digital collection features an ever-growing series of oral histories of members of the Portuguese-American community, with strong ties to the Azores. These include both video and audio interviews of notable Portuguese-Americans in politics, agriculture, Portuguese language radio, education, and more. The collection also features the documentaries created by the PBBI, including Untold Stories: Portuguese Americans Along the 99 Corridor, featuring clips from several of the oral history interviews. The collection also preserves record of PBBI’s special projects, events, and seminars for the use of Fresno State students, faculty, and staff, as well as by the larger San Joaquin Valley community and beyond.
