In 1969, the Fresno State newspaper, the Daily Collegian began publishing ethnic supplements to the main newspaper. One of the first was La Pluma Morena, the Chicano-Black student supplement. It began on May 5, 1969 but by Oct. 6, had become Chicano Liberation, which ran until November 17. Then, in an effort to find a name that expressed the spirit of the Chicano Movement of the time, on December 15 the insert changed its name again, this time to La Voz de Aztlan, which is still in use today. The newspaper serves as a lens into the social and historical events that are relevant to or informed by the campus Chicano experience.
