Just Snooping Around

Derwin Washington, 2-year-old son of Mr and Mrs. Willie Washington
of Fresno, and Rochelle Crawford, 18-month-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs Greg Crawford of Fresno, were not too impressed with all that
modern art at the Fresno District Fair. After snooping around for a
while, they found something more appealing, a number cf paintings of
Snoopy that terrific playmate of the Peanuts gang Whether it is chasing
the Red Baron or playing "Ha Ha, Herman," Snoopy is a child pleaser.

Basketball Ail-American Roscoe Pondexter, and Fresno City College Coach
John Toomasian.

Pondexter Enrolls At Fresno City College

Basketball Coach John Toomasian of Fresno City College stated that
he has bagged his "best freshman prospects in years." No one doubts
the Ram mentor because one of his prize catches is High School Ail-
American Roscoe Pondexter of Fresno's San Joaquin Memorial High
School.

Pondexter and nine other outstanding prep basketballers are presently
attending Fresno City College.

Over 100 other colleges and universities courted Pondexter—including
such big names in basketball as UCLA, USC, Long Beach State, Notre
Dame and Marquette.

Pondexter who stands 6'6" said he opted for Fresno because the
community college competition is "tougher and more of a challenge"
than the freshman play at a four year college or university.

The big forward said most freshman teams play only a 14- or 15-
games schedule. Frseno will play a 31-game schedule next season which
includes three tournaments.

Pondexter will still be going to a four-year college after FCC—and
right now he's leaning toward UCLA, Long Beach or UC Santa Barabara.

Medical Group Names Dr. Stain President

Dr. Stanley Stain

The National Medical Association,
an organization of predominately
black physicians, was
founded in 1895 with the objective
of simulating and fostering health
care for the disadvantaged. The
local organization was established
in January, 1969.

Stain said he accepts the challenge
to perpetuate the goals and
ideals of the national organization.
He also favors more construction
of support programs relating to
the training and use of allied medical
personnel. He said he will
express a continuing concern to
maintain the highest standards of
health care for all patients, try to
improve the health care delivery
system and emphasize cultural enrichmen
programs and scholarship
aid.

Dr. Stanley Stain, a family practitioner,
has been elected president
of the Fresno chapter of the National
Medical Association succeeding
Dr. George Bugg.

Hendricks Appointed To National
Housing And Redevelopment Post

James Hendricks

James Hendricks, executive director
of he Fresno Redevelopment
Agency, has been appointed to the
National Renewal Committee of the
National Association of Housing
and Redevelopment Officials.

The appointment was made at
a national gathering of redevelopment
officials in Kansas City, Mo.
Hendricks was also appointed to
a national ad hoc committee on
site selection criteria for new housing
projects receiving federal aid.

Hendricks, the chairman of the
Renewal Directors of California Association
a nd recently appointed
vice president of the Central California
Chapter of the National Association
of Housing and Redevelopment
Officials, commented on
the study:

"The criteria developed by the
federal government for federally
assisted housing is vital to the
growth of our nation's communities.
No longer can we relegate
the unfortunate of our society to
the less viable portions of our community.

"When over 40 per cent of the
people in Fresno cannot afford to
purchase housing in the conventional
market, the criteria developed
for subsidized housing becomes an
issue that affects not only the lowincome
minority but a considerable
portion of our citizenry.

"The need, therefore, for comprehensive
community planning for
housing at all income levels and a
critical in-depth investigation of
site selection criteria is without a
doubt a necessary task for community
leaders."

Recently Mrs. Medlock was honored by the Astro-Playmates, a local
social group for her work in the field of education.
